A very nice and quiet family hotel opposite the cathedral. The only problem was with parking, which is really problematic in Funchal. In the end we parked our car in Rua de Sao Jose, which is about a kilometre from the hotel but for free and without problems.
The staff were very helpful, for example when we needed to find out some topical information about some levadas.
A nice and comfortable room with a view of the street so we could observe the life in the streets of Funchal in the evenings.
The hotel is not exactly for those who want to spend their time on the beach :) Still we did do some swimming in Machico and Calheta.
A perfect location for going for trips all over Madeira. We didn´t do any sport except hiking.
As for breakfast, there was a wide selection of everything, including nice little local sweets. The only inconvenience was that the breakfast was available from 8am, which is a bit too late for those who want to set off on a whole-day trip. The start at 7 would be much more convenient.
